Astoria Pub - Feb 20th 2013
It was exciting to hear Twin Crystals return to the live arena as they have been absent for some time. A trio with a buzzing keyboard Twin Crystals take influence from all over the underground past and present. They are an aggressive outfit with furious DIY ethic. Like the Screamers before them much feedback ensues and the songs keep coming; it's a blurry world with a sound coming straight from the soul.
The Astoria is a solid and low key venue where local artists can play in an intimate setting. LIE' start off the evening, a newish three piece with three ladies pounding out a post - punk scream with an attacking bass rumble. They sounding great on this stage which is nice to see!
Inherent Vices is another trio, three guys this time that sound a bit like Joy Division - a vicious blast of riffage in their short set with vocals like ATV from the late 70s.
Apollo Ghosts are a change of pace - A crisp four piece power pop outfit who are very tight, and make you want to dance! They have three albums out which are all locally released.

TC have several vinyl releases out which are available in shops around town. Lie' and Inherent Vices also have tapes that are available from the bands. There is a merch table with lots of stuff from the Nite Prison stable - quietly they have built quite a scene here in Vancouver.
Overall a fine misty night out on Hastings in good company!
