Back at the Astoria the excitement was running high for the return of the insanely rocking Hookers; who originated from Louisville Kentucky in 1994. They have toured all over the US and Europe as they were kindred spirits in the punk/garage scene in the 90's. Two nights with different support each evening was the menu this weekend. Their first album Satan's Highway came out in 1998 and a succession of 7- inch singles and a split 12" with Electric Frankenstein followed. They bring wild RNR and thrash to the table with high-speed rhythms and screaming vocals - The crowd just went crazy as singer Adam Neal laid down a raging sermon for the fans. Like the Misfits in the past they bring the old school back.

The common denominator was all about subtraction. A set of bands that stripped bare the genre divisions of hardcore, punk rock, garage and rock n roll. It didn't matter which corner of the block was your territory. If you didn't walk out of this show completely soaked to the skin, the sorry news was, you weren’t working on the right equation. Next question, what happens when you book two slaughtering bands off Grave Mistake with two of Vancouver's uncompromising favourites?

An unlikely match? Not at all. A perfect line-up with all bases covered for the entertainment pleasure of a full house. Kentucky gents, The Hookers close off the tour with Vancouver locals joining the ranks of this loud machine. A night that reached deep into the well of thrash, punk, metal and garage swagger only to spill out on a league of patrons soaked in sweat, beer and liquor. On the tail of the new seven-inch release Teenage Blood and recent 2011 album Horror Rises From The Tombs, a relentless set of old and new was unleashed. A clear show of hands in support of good times were raised high till the last amp was powered down.
